RED like Tiziano, like the bricks of ancient buildings, like Tintoretto, like the “real” Venice. I’m writing about the amazing touch of the “Red Regatta” water performance, created by the American artist Melissa McGill, of 52 boats with “third” sail that I had the opportunity to admire last June 30th in the waters of the lagoon. Just the peculiarity of this regatta is in the color of the sails, the red colour, used in 52 different shades, one for each different boat.
Since red was the protagonist color, what better sponsor for the event than Select, the first Red Venetian aperitivo? I’m always in love with its refined aromatic profile and I think the balanced sweet-bitter taste makes Select the ideal ingredient for the classic Venetian Spritz: Select is the taste of home to me!!
The meeting point was in San Servolo with a group of “Veneti DOC”, and then all together we started our tour. The Select Crew was fantastic, always pampered all day long.
I was positively impressed by the boat that gave us the chance to see more closely a part of the Red Regatta exhibition. Although it was a boat from the end of the 19th century (to be precise we are talking about “Lady Betty” a boat built in England in 1894 under the reign of Queen Victoria which today has become the oldest floating boat in Venice!), it was totally modernized, equipped with a very silent electric motor that uses lithium-ion battery technology and therefore does not emit pollutants. The guy who accompanied us, a New Yorker who became Venetian by adoption, was super kind and I will definitely contact him in the future for a tour in my beautiful Venice using the website https://www.classicboatsvenice.com/it/
I thank Select Aperitivo for having me and for the pleasant Sunday spent in a dreamy location, in a true Venetian style! You can also see my happiness in all the photos I leave below, I guess 😉
